This special certificated train pack commemorates the 100th anniversary of World War One.
Throughout the war, railway companies converted existing stock into sophisticated travelling hospitals. The carriages of these trains were painted with red crosses, indicating their humanitarian role, to prevent enemy attack. The ambulance trains were used at home and abroad for the repatriation of wounded British soldiers.
No. 40 was built by the Midland Railway.
