Locoshed Customer reviews
Mark Smith , Manchester - 14 Jan 2013 - 10/10 I've been here a few times and im always made to feel welcome by the staff, especially when jim (The owner) is in. He always offers a cup of tea. Excellent range of locos and rolling stock in both OO and N gauge. Some products are new and others are second hand. Great place to have a look if your after something specific for you layout. Stock is well priced. The staff let you open boxes so you can get a good look at the products and will even test a loco to show its working. I've bought several locos from here and have all been in excellent condition. Seeing as this place is local for me, I will be making more trips in the future if I need any other additions to my layout! Susan Oldham , Manchester - 02 Dec 2012 - 10/10 Absolutely excellent! Welcoming, helpful, informative, had to drag my better half away! Edna Matthews , Liverpool - 24 Nov 2012 - 10/10 The loco shed fantastic shop, never been in shop where owner jim is so welcoming and greets you with offer of lovely cup of tea. Fantastic stock, brilliant advise never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Allows you to rummage in boxes and also allows children to rummage and makes them very welcome. Marvellous repair service, mountains of bits and pieces, pays good prices for anything you want to sell. .Shop prices very reasonable. Opens boxes lets you examine goods, runs loco S for you to see. I cannot speak highly enough of jim and his shop. Even all his customers are really friendly better than going to a club! Donald Birrell , Heywood - 16 Oct 2012 - 10/10 Went in on Friday, just to have a look to get some ideas. Made a brew almost straight away. Owner kept apologising about not speaking to me as he was dealing with another customer. Ended up buying a second hand class 37, fna nuclear wagon and brake van. Was given a great demonstration of diesel and steam digital sound locomotives and given great advice on converting my existing locos. Won't be long until I go back. Daniel Barlow , Chorlton, Manchester - 03 Oct 2012 - 9/10 I went to the loco shed a few weeks back to get some ideas about a small N gauge layout. The shop's owner was very helpful, friendly and patient with all my questions, even though he was in the middle of repairing a customer's model (Which he did for him for free.) I was made a brew, we opened a few models up to inspect them and I received the best advice i've had so far in N gauge modelling - don't buy anything today. You heard right - I was told not to jump into buying anything there and then which was very useful as i've since looked at other models and known that I would've regretted purchasing the item I had my eye on (It is the wrong era). That sort of advice tells me that this shop cares about the hobby and I will certainly be visiting again once I have set my mind on the items i'm after. I've marked the loco shed as 9/10 only because they don't stock kato unitrack in store and i'd need to drive to Sheffield or Liverpool to get it same day! Richard Morris , Witney, Oxfordshire - 28 Jul 2012 - 9/10 A proper model railway shop! If only they were all like this. A great range of new and secondhand stock in o, OO and N. Locos, rolling stock, buildings, scenery, tools, etc, it's all here. and the proprietor couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. He was very happy for me to rumage through boxes of stuff he had not sorted. He even put up with my 3 young children! Brilliant. Phil Brooks , Glossop, Derbyshire - 27 Jun 2012 - 9/10 Excellent first visit.Coffee within 2 minutes, bought couple of new and second hand pieces.Jim , owner, helpful and friendly. Definately visiting again. Dave Gresham , Radcliffe - 03 Mar 2012 - 10/10 Excellent!!!!, jim (The owner) is a really helpful guy. All in all a highly recomended place for all model railway requirements! Will be using this in future - dave gresham. Paul Hicks , Broxburn, West Lothian - 28 Jan 2012 - 9/10 Everything you could want in a *True* Model railway shop - plenty of second hand, friendly, knowledgable staff, easy to visit (Parking etc), good prices and fantastic range.

The East Lancashire Railway
The East Lancs or ELR as we fondly know it is our local heritage Railway for seeing the real thing. Steam and Diesel operate on a regular basis through the Irwell valley from the Industrial heritage town of Bury to the very picturesque Ramsbottom and onto Rawtenstall. The ELR also run to Heywood in the other direction where the BR link is used for moving locos and stock to the main line network. The ELR is a fantastic reminder of how things used to be in the 1950s /60s of BR and they get regular visiting locos both steam and Diesel at various times during the year. They have a very busy callender of Special events such as the highly succesful Thomas the Tank weekend, the Spring and Autumn Steam Gala , 1940s War weekend and several Diesel galas where you can see the old favourites such as Deltics and Class 40s in action. I used to be an active member myself in the early days and one day hope to return when i have time.Definately worth a visit if you are coming to the shop as it is only 4 miles away. They also have a super cafe and the Trackside bar on the platform open all year i think. The Castlecroft museum has also been refurbished and is also well worth a look.

The Lancashire and Yorkshire DCC Group
The Lancs and Yorks DCC group have their clubrooms based in Haslingden East Lancs and have two very successful Model Railway shows at the Museum of Transport , Boyle Street , Cheetham Hill, Manchester M8 8UW and the Bacup Hub show in East Lancs later each year. A very friendly group who know everything that you need to know about DCC operation and Railway history. Well worth paying them a visit. Their next show is at the Museum of Transport on the 17th and 18th of May 2014 from 10am -5pm a superb show with loads of layouts and very good trade support and a great cafe on site
